Mike's Birthday

It was Mike's birthday yesterday. He took the day off work and helped chaperone Katelyn's class field trip. They went to a pizza place here in town, toured the kitchen, watched them make pizzas and got to eat a slice - then the kids got to go bowling. I guess it was pretty fun. Then Mike took the afternoon to go shooting. Unfortunately, we didn't celebrate his birthday yesterday. Instead, it was Katelyn's school's fundraiser at planet kid, so we met Mike at McDonalds after work and school. Since we didn't have time to make Mike's cake or give him his present we put a candle in his McDonalds double cheeseburger, sang happy birthday to him and got him a hot fudge sundae.

The girls loved Planet Kid. Alyssa and Katelyn got their faces painted. Alyssa loved the jump house and she went down the slides about a zillion times. Katelyn had four or five kids from her class there and enjoyed playing with all of them. All in all both kids had a wonderful time. They played for hours. We didn't get the kids to bed until almost 10:00PM.

Then today we celebrated. We let Daddy sleep in this morning but the girls couldn't wait too long to give him his present. We got him a baby Glock and he seems pretty happy with his gift.

Then the girls helped me make a rainbow cake. I let them help mix the colors and of course they got to add the sprinkles and the candles. The only problem is that my girls LOVE sprinkles and they put so many on they were several layers deep. They didn't all stick to the frosting and so when Mike went to blow out his candles he sprayed sprinkles all over the table too.

According to Alyssa, it was the best birthday cake ever! I'm guessing its the colors rather then anything amazing with the flavor.

Of course, then the discussion turned to what kind of birthday cakes the girls want for their birthdays. Katelyn wants another Barbie cake and Alyssa wants a cake with Dora, Diego, and dinosaurs. We shall see if that changes in the next month for Alyssa. I can't believe she is almost three!
