Seahawks 12K

Its a low resolution image since the race folks want you to buy the high resolution quality image, but at least it shows I was there! I went to Seattle last weekend to visit Bree and run the 12K (thats seven and a half miles for those non-runners out there -- that included me up until a few months ago when I agreed to run the dang thing). This is a picture of me at the very end of the race. I know it was taken at the end of the race because Bree and I stayed together all of the way until the very end when she somehow managed to have enough energy to sprint across the finish line and leave me in the dust. Since she isn't in the picture (and I look like I could keel over at anytime), I know this picture was taken at the very end. We managed to complete the race in just under an hour and a half -- so 12 1/2 minute miles. I told my Mom that I came in first in my division - she very astutely asked me what category that was and I told her female runners aged 35 to 39 from Idaho. She then asked how many people were in my division - of course the answer was one! We weren't the last ones to finish the race but we were definitely toward the back of the pack. The fast runners started passing us on their way back to the finish line when we were at mile marker 2!

Other then the sore legs for the few days following the race, I had a great trip. Bree and I went shopping on Saturday and I spent way too much money but came home with some much needed clothing! We had a good visit. On Sunday, we got to go to a movie theater with a twist - it was a cinnabar. So you buy your ticket (we went to see clash of the titans) and you get carded because not only are you going into a theater, you are also going into a bar. So you can buy beer and wine while you wait for your show to start and then once you are in the theater, it is set up so that in front of each row of seats there is a bar/table with menus and order forms you fill out. The waiters - dressed in all black -- can walk in front of the tables in between the next set of seats and they come by, pick up your orders and serve you during the movie. It was a full restaurant with a limited bar. So while I watched Clash of the Titans I got to eat a great burger and some wonderful fries and onion rings! I thought it was such a great idea that I came back to Boise and told a bunch of people about it - it turns out we have a similar theater in Nampa! Go figure. I guess its a little different - it doesn't show first run movies, its the three dollar movie theater and you have to order your food out in the lobby but they serve it in the theater and you can order a dessert or another drink or whatever to be served midway through the movie too. Also its not only adults, they dont' start serving alcohol until after the six o'clock show, so you could take you kids with you if you wanted - just not to an eight o'clock showing. I might have to take Mike out there for a date night or something and check it out to see how it compares.

Katelyn has started soccer and she is doing great! She is really starting to kick the ball with the inside of her foot and control it a little. She is one of the faster kids on the team but she doesn't put much effort into keeping up with whoever has the ball or trying to take it away. I'm not sure she will ever get that competitive drive, but as long as she is having fun we will continue to put her in soccer. We were also thinking of trying basketball in the winter. Her soccer coach also coaches basketball through the YMCA and he is really good as a soccer coach, so we thought we might try out basketball too. Of course there are a ton of things I'd like for her to try, including T-Ball, but there just aren't enough hours in the week. Between gymnastics and soccer our schedule is pretty full and that is only one child. I'm not sure how we are going to handle it when we start Alyssa in gymnastics this fall!

Alyssa's birthday is next week and I picked up a Dora the Explorer cake pan (I will leave the decorating to Mike once I bake it!) - Grandma and Grandpa Perker sent her a Dora card - she liked that alot -- so thank you! She has requested rainbow cupcakes for her class, although the day before she requested fruit roll-ups and that would be ALOT easier for me, so I will ask her again tomorrow before I go shopping and that will have to be her final answer.

We have three year pictures with Jen tomorrow - although I'm not sure what time. And Katelyn has a soccer game too - so depending on how it all works out Mike and I might have to divide and conquer!
