Meet Miley

This is Miley (at least tonight her name was Miley - it keeps changing). She is the newest addition to the Hickok Clan! Last weekend the Idaho Humane Society called out to community members for assistance because they had so many cats they were going to have to start putting them to sleep. They offered to waive adoption fees -- but of course still encouraging a donation to the humane society. So, Katelyn and I went to the Humane Society to see what was going on (along with every other good samaritan in Boise). When we got there the place was packed and they had about 12 cats total. We found a seven month old female short haired tortesshell that was rather affectionate and were waiting in line to fill out the paperwork when one of the "foster moms" comes in with three little kittens. Needless to say, Katelyn flipped over the kittens and we ended up adopting this little girl shown above. She came home on Sunday after having surgery to make sure there will be no more little kitties. They warned us that she was still affected by the anesthesia and she might be a little "snarky" -- that was a bit of an understatement! She was yawling the entire way home and Katelyn suggested "Grumpy" and "Cranky" as names at that point. We have also discussed Ali the Ally Cat (but decided that if Alyssa ever wants a nickname, that Aly might be a viable option, so we shouldn't name the cat that one). Then Katelyn suggested Cinderella and we finally decided that a shortened version, Ella, was a good option. But then Katelyn thought Cindi might be good too. Grandma suggested Gabby because for awhile there the little girl wouldn't shut up. Then I came up with Miley based on Grandma's comment that we should name her after a singer because she was so vocal. Other suggestions have included Barbie, Montana, China (although Katelyn already used that one in the naming of her class pet rat). I think Miley might stick as the name, but we shall see what tomorrow brings.

The girls are doing great. Alyssa was scared of the kitten at first. She is still a little timid, but she has gone up to pet her a few times and I think she will be pretty comfortable with her by the end of the week.
Katelyn is loving having the kitten in the house. She has helped get the kitten food and water. She has given her treats and she loves to play with her. -- And she is really helpful in telling Mommy that the litterbox needs to be changed :)
Mike is off in the great outdoors, being the great american hunter. He left on Monday and won't be back until Sunday. So he isn't around for the big naming debate. But he did get to meet Miley before he left and I don't think he minds having her around too much.
Kita's nose is out of joint and she is just dying to take a bite out of the delectable morsal we obviously brought home for her, but the two have not yet come face to face. Alot of whining between closed doors, but so far, no face to face meeting. Miley's foster mom told us that they had a dog and Miley got along great with the dog, so hopefully after adjusting to each other Kita and Miley will be good friends.
