Vampires and vomiting describes my life the last few weeks (funny enough, it explains the lives of a lot of my co-workers as well). Short story – vampire book series that everyone is addicted to and there is a stomach bug going around that Mike got and then Alyssa had something – not sure if it was the stomach bug or teething, but vomiting ensued!
Longer story: I normally go to bed around 9:30 or 10:00pm. I am not a night owl, but for the last three weeks (approximately), I’ve been staying up past 11:00pm, sometimes midnight, sometimes later. The ladies here at work were raving about a series of books, so I asked them to send me the title and the name of the author so I could read them too. The e-mail introducing me to the Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyers was sent to me on September 8, it took me a few days to purchase the first book and then I was hooked. (Britt, I realize now that you had actually mentioned this series on your Blog awhile ago and when you described it I meant to go search for it, but then it slipped my mind) Anyway, I finished the fourth book on September 27 at 1:30am! I was reading every available minute. I read through my lunch hours, I stayed up late to read, I even took the book with me when I went to my belly dancing class so I could read for the five minutes I was waiting for the class to start! Definitely addicted to Edward and Bella!
The only reason I remember when I finished the series is that September 27 is my anniversary. I had to take a nap in the middle of the day so that I wasn’t a total zombie when we went out to dinner and a movie. (we saw the Dark Night – the Batman movie). The good news is that Mike is engrossed in the Eragon series (and he isn’t much of a reader, so those are probably good books). So he has been pretty understanding of the fact that the dishes didn’t get done, the laundry piled up, the clutter didn’t really get touched, etc. – maybe because his nose has been in a book after the girls go down too, so noone really noticed the house going to pot!
Alyssa is on the mend (I hope) and the girls are doing great. Alyssa has been saying potty a lot and she has actually gone twice when we have put her on the potty. Most of the time she says all done after a few seconds and doesn’t do anything. Katelyn showed an interest in the potty at this age too and she didn’t potty train until 3 ½, so I’m not getting my hopes up. But, its still pretty exciting. Alyssa will also come up to us (mainly Grandma) and say poop and point to her diaper – sure enough, she needs a diaper change! This morning she was laying down on her changing table babbling and I thought she said booger. I looked at her and said "did you say booger" and in response she raised up her finger and there was a booger! Yeah, one of my daughters first few hundred words was booger! :)
Katelyn is now letting us read a chapter book to her. The only one she has shown much of an interest in so far is "the Owl whos afraid of the dark." It’s a little owl named Plop, who learns about the dark and gets over his fear, in the end he thinks the dark is cool. I bought the book about a year ago when Katelyn started the "I’m scared of the dark phase" but when it arrived there were few pictures and a lot of words-so it was put in the bookshelf and not looked at until recently when Katelyn picked it out. Mike and I alternate nights reading to Katelyn (the other one puts Alyssa down for bed). With this book there are about 8 chapters. Mike started reading the first four, I read the last four the next night. Then, Mike read the first four, I read the next four, etc. So, for about a week, we had read the book three or four times with Mike only knowing the beginning and me only knowing the end. We finally both managed to read the other half of the book (although I think Mike just got to read the last half last night). Katelyn is still in soccer. But because of my nap last Saturday, I missed her first "scrimmage." I guess it was hilarious, with kids just kicking the ball to the closest goal, it didn’t really matter which team’s goal it was. I can’t wait to see that for myself on Saturday.
