And then Sunday was all about ME (and Grandma H)!!! Mike and the girls did a great job spoiling me -maybe too good, because I was ready for that treatment to continue! The girls woke me up at 8:30, so they let me sleep in about an hour and a half longer than normal. For my Mothers Day gift, Mike got me some patio furniture that we had been looking at, and he and Matt (our cousin) put it together while I had the kids at the birthday party and they hid it on the side of the house. So before I woke up, he moved it to the back deck and put a lovely pot of flowers Alyssa picked out in the center. I guess the original idea was to make breakfast and eat it outside on the new table, but it was cold, rainy and pretty yucky so he asked the girls if they would like to take Mommy and Grandma out for breakfast. Of course they said yes, so we ate at Cracker Barrel for breakfast.
I got to decide what to do with the day and so I elected to go see Shoshone Falls:
We had been there before when Katelyn was about two, but it had been awhile and Alyssa had never been there. We checked the weather and decided to take a chance that it would either clear up by the time we got to Twin Falls or at least not be pouring on us. We drove the two hours to Twin Falls -- with Katelyn asking at least half a dozen times "are we there yet" & "when will we get there" - and this is the child I'm thinking of taking on the trip next weekend to Pocatello that will be twice as long - Uggg!
By the time we got there, it had stopped raining. While it was overcast the entire time we were there, it was still amazing and the overcast weather kept alot of people away, so we didn't have any problems parking or fighting crowds at the view points. My family was thrilled when I told them to stand at the view point closest to the falls so I could take a picture - they were getting sprayed and the wind was a little crazy:
Can you tell Mike was loving that?
Then we walked to one of the view points further up the hill:
No comments on the bad hair day!
The girls were having fun spotting the many "water falls" in the area and Grandma H was having fun encouraging them. Here is one of the falls spotted by Katelyn (she has her Daddy's sense of humor):
I wasn't willing to take a picture of the water fall consisting of water flowing out of an irrigation pipe, at least this one was a natural flow of water (or maybe trickle is the right word?)
Of course, as we were driving up, away from the falls, the sun came out and I think it pretty much shined the entire trip home. We finished up the day with dinner out and the kids playing in the back yard with Mike and Grandma while I finally made some phone calls to my own Moms to wish them a happy mothers day.
I hope everyone enjoyed their day as much as I did. Thanks to everyone for making it so special!
