No, I'm not referring to one of my girls, I'm referring to myself! Yesterday was fathers day and I didn't call my Dad! I fell asleep instead! I don't really have an excuse. I thought about calling at 7:00 a.m. when I was awake and just had Alyssa, but that would have been 6:00am their time and since they usually go to bed late and sleep in, I didn't think that would be a nice father's day gift - a six a.m. wake up call! Then about mid-day I thought about it again, but with two girls going a little crazy I couldn't find the time. So by the time nightfall came around, I was beat. I fell asleep in Alyssa's room putting her to bed and then said good night to Katelyn and went to bed, completely forgetting that I still hadn't made a very important call -- like I said, horrible daughter!
I think Mike enjoyed his fathers day at least. He got to sleep in until about 9:15 (which is about as long as you can get Katelyn to let anyone sleep in at our house). Then we took his dad out to lunch at a Mexican restaurant. Then after we were done stuffing ourselves, we had a little rest outside by the pool (kiddie pool -- if you are imagining the lawn chairs sitting around the pool with the adults with their feet in the pool then you would have the right picture, the only thing we were missing for our true white trash kind of moment was the bottle of beer -- and I thought about a margarita but just didn't do it!) Then we got motivated to get out on our bikes and ride to Dairy Queen, get a blizzard and ride home again. Probably about three miles and just about as long as Alyssa will put up with being strapped in her bike seat. (we haven't gotten a picture of her in her seat yet, but there are pictures of Katelyn on her tag-along bike on our website: http://www.clanhickok.com/)
Friday was kind of a fathers day precurser. We took half a day off work and went golfing. I had a decent score (if I were playing 18 holes, unfortunately we were only playing 9 -- man I suck at that game!) But, the good news was that the drink cart came around once and everything is better after a Mike's Hard Lemonade :)
Unfortunately Katelyn went to bed with a fever Thursday night and woke up on Friday with a fever, so grandma saved the day and came over to babysit a little earlier then expe
cted (she was going to watch the girls while we golfed anyway, she just got about six more hours of Katelyn time then she expected). Katelyn was actually mad that she didn't get to go to school on Friday, so I guess we have had a pretty good transition to the new school thus far. The lead teacher in her classroom is going on vacation in a few days, so that will be the real test. Katelyn really likes Ms. Bobbie, but I'm not sure about the others. Katleyn also loves the rats. The babies have all grown and now they are down to one of the babies for a classroom pet. I guess they voted on names and Katelyn's favorite name won! The rat is now China (which is one of the names she wanted us to name her baby sister about a year ago and has cropped up again in the naming of a doll). By the way, this picture is Katelyn in her spirit mask from school from their visit to Africa (one of the many art projects she brings home -- I love it!). The class explored the Brazilian rain forests last week making bats, turantulas and anacondas and this week they are off to Holland to explore.

Her bottom is so red it makes me cringe to look at it. We have been rinsing out our wipes before we use them on her bottom, slathering her up with Butt Paste, letting her run around the house and yard naked (which resulted in three puddles in various spots in the house to clean up) and recently resorted to Monistat...unfortunately, her bottom j
ust isn't getting much better. It would help if she would stop pooing every half hour to an hour. This tends to happen when she is teething, but this has been the worst thus far.
