So big happenings around the Hickok house! On Monday (June 2) we started the girls at their new school. We actually had four great days of drop off -- today wasn't the best, but for a first week it rocked! Then on Tuesday (June 3) Alyssa got her first glasses. She looks super cute in them, but I've decided that I can't handle the fits to get her hair up out of her face, patching her eye, keeping glasses on, and everything else. Something had to give, so on Friday (June 6) we cut her hair so that she has bangs and all Mommy or Daddy will have to worry about doing is combing her hair and possibly wetting it down. I think I can handle that.
Katelyn is doing ok, we have had three accidents this week and she has been super whiney, but I hope it is a transition to the new school thing instead of a preview of what the age of four is going to be like. I don't think I can handle whiney like this for a year. People tell me that accidents are normal and she is one of those "I don't realize I have to go potty until I REALLY have to go potty" kind of kids, so there is little time for dawdling and Katelyn is a dawdler, so I figure if we have an accident a week for awhile longer its pretty normal (three a week is excessive, so hopefully this ends soon).
Mike and I are doing good. We have started to switch banks -- what a pain in the butt! We found out we were eligible for USAA membership through Dad and Sharon, so we signed up with USAA for insurance (saved about $500 a year) and then we started checking out their interest rates and the benefits from having multiple accounts through USAA and everything else and we just decided that it made sense to switch banking institutions as well. Anyway, you don't realize how used to the bank you are with until you decide to switch over to a new bank. Its a slow process, but we will get it done eventually and I think its a smart move. Their savings and checking accounts earn interest at rates that can't be beat in the local market, so what the heck. We are giving it a shot.
Mike's mom stayed with us for the month of May and was a huge help with Alyssa and household chores. It was nice coming home to have the laundry already done and put away and sometimes have dinner ready! I could really get used to that. If we had a bigger house we might have to invite her to move in -- well maybe I wouldn't go that far, but it was good for the month!
I've been playing with different blog websites and this one seems to be the most user friendly with the least amount of crap on the website, so I think this might be the final stop in my quest to find a new blog home but I won't committ to that until I see what Yahoo comes up with to replace 360, I really liked their format, the fact that it would let you know if someone posted a comment, that you could limit those that could view your blog or site, etc. So, who knows, but for now, this is it.
